Clemson: The Attraction
The thesis of my visual rhetoric is Clemson is a school surrounded by striking visual attractions that many times go overlooked. The reason I chose this topic is because I am a new transfer student here at Clemson. I haven’t been here very long, so I decided to use this project as a way for me to see the campus in a whole new light. So far, Clemson to me has just been school and an occasional basketball game here and there. However, I wanted to see a new side of Clemson. I wanted to see what makes Clemson so special. Speaking to peers, I have found that one of the greatest things about Clemson is the great scenery, beauty and glamour surrounding it. I have visited different areas around Clemson rather than staying in one general area. This has helped me capture the natural beauty that is all around Clemson.
To illustrate my points, I have taken pictures of many great scenes around Clemson and placed them in a video that will be presented on Blogger. I feel that a video/ blog will give me a visual aid which will assist me in getting my point across effectively. It is an organized and methodical way to present my visual aids and it won’t keep me limited in what I want to portray through this visual rhetoric assignment. I also have used a song within my movie. The song is “Hope” by Faith Hill and Twista. It is a slow moving song that exudes a sense of relaxation that goes along with the peaceful scenes presented in the picture slides and the video. It speaks of hope for a new day and the greatness that can come in life if we keep trying. This message will go very nicely with the scenes within the video as well. This is the type of tone I would like to set with my project.
Scenes I will Capture:
Calhoun Mansion
Carillon Garden
Cox Plaza
Tillman Hall
Military Heritage Plaza
Ampitheater

The Amphitheater

The Amphitheater is an outdoor theater in front of Cooper Library at Clemson. The theater was built in 1940 as a gift from the class of 1915 and from funds of the federal government. The theater’s scenic area makes it a great place to relax, study and socialize on campus.

Library Reflection Pool

The library reflection pool serves as one of the premiere relaxation sites here on the Clemson campus. Students will come here to study, socialize and eat lunch. As one of the most serene areas on campus, the reflection pool is among the most visually appealing scenes at Clemson.
Tillman Hall

Tillman Hall is named for Benjamin Tillman, a former governor of South Carolina. It serves as a major landmark on the Clemson campus. Tillman Hall is very popular, as it is even on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of the most scenic areas on site.

Cox Union Plaza

Cox Union Plaza is named after a former President at Clemson University, Walter T. Cox. Cox Plaza is a very popular meeting spot on campus as it offers great relaxation with it’s alluring surroundings. Cox was a member of the Clemson class of 1939 and throughout his life played a vital role to the success of Clemson as a university.

Carillon Garden

The memorial at Carillon Garden was dedicated by the class of 1939 in memory of classmates who gave their lives for the great cause of freedom. Set in the middle of campus, Carillon Garden is used for many activities, meetings and even weddings.

Fort Hill

Here on Fort Hill stands the former home of former U.S. vice president John Calhoun. This mansion of his is today, a national landmark. Completed in 1803 Fort Hill expanded to this its present form and is now one of the most attractive places on the Clemson campus.
